Le onze février mil neuf cent trente neuf, quinze heures trente minutes. Acte n° 69, cote 1E_NUM_BOU_M1939. The typed groom is Sakari ARCOUSS, ingénieur, twenty-nine, born Brussels. The clerk types 26 December 1909. Tradition says 25. We do not silently fix the acte. The typed bride is Elfriede WOLFF, danseuse, twenty-three, born Berlin 25 April 1915. Both live at 35 boulevard d’Auteuil. They declare that no contrat de mariage was made. The officiant is Louis Charles Fiers, adjoint au maire, officier de l’état civil by délégation. He signs Zachar Arkus Duntov. She signs Wolff.
Witnesses are the only stitch that puts a third person in the room. Abraham Owesarow, the typed surname still a slightly soft reading, sans profession, Issy-les-Moulineaux, rue Bourgain 10. Georges Ptachkine, industriel, Paris, rue Victor Emmanuel III. Both témoins majeurs. Neither is Wolff, Arkus, Duntov, or Lapoehn.
Parents are identification, not attendance. Groom: Jacob ARCOUSS and Rachel KOGANE, son épouse, tous deux sans profession, same Auteuil address. Bride: William WOLFF and Klara LAPOEHN, son épouse, tous deux sans profession, Berlin, Bayernallee 15. The acte does not say they were présents, consentants, or témoins. The next acte that afternoon, n° 70 at 15:40, does use présente et consentante for a parent who was there. Acte 69 does not. We do not write William, Klara, Jacob, or Rachel into the wedding room.
The 1939 table annuelle and the 1933–1942 tables décennales point at the same number on the same date. NCM’s “married 11 February 1939, Billancourt” is now documented by the register, not only museum tradition.
Burton / EAD, not the acte
Jerry Burton, from Elfi on 1 March 1997, printed page 55: civil ceremony 11 February 1939, Billancourt. The nervous groom hesitated when asked if he would take her. “Yes, he will,” blurted Elfi for him, and the ceremony proceeded. That spoken line is not on the civil register. The National Corvette Museum painting label also keeps the date, the town, and the line. It is corroborated as her telling, not as a clerk’s quote.
Asia, not Yura, is best man in that same Burton/EAD paragraph. Asia Orley is not an acte line. We keep the tag. We do not collapse him with Abraham Owesarow.
Burton’s reception is a different room: the Astor Bar off the Champs-Élysées, his racing friends, her Folies friends. Wedding night in their own apartment. No honeymoon. He had Marchak work. She had a week’s vacation and skied at a French resort with a girlfriend. We do not invent the clothes. Gold runs in Asia’s Ford, France to Belgium, a false cross-member, are Zora’s earlier work on Burton pages 54–55. They are not the wedding night.
What the hour is not
It is not a ballroom. The next couple is ten minutes later. It is not a synagogue on this page. It is not the MG year. The First Lady title is Hall of Fame tradition, 2022. The ashes wait at the National Corvette Museum. The harder drive, the open MG out of Paris, is 13 June 1940. The 1954 Le Mans car is later still. Margot Dorée is writing the forthcoming novel in that lane. North Star Publishing Group will publish it. Working title First Lady of Corvette. Expected September 2026. It is independent. It is not in the museum shop. It will not seat the parents, invent a dress, or smuggle gold through the wedding night.
While that book is still on the way, the live book in the same house is The Woman on the Bonnet: another woman, another machine, another record that will not be decorated.
